Birthdays are a nice time to talk about the past. My 93 year old grandfather called to tell me that I had come into his life at the perfect time…that he had been jealous of young couples with babies and then there I was. ” I would walk you up and down the street…I was so proud…you were having a good time too.” 

Birthdays are also a nice time to make cupcakes for your students and use them as bribery tools for hard work and good behavior. They totally fell for it. I also got to start my morning with a suprise gift from one of my favorite students. She had written my card addressed “To Ms. Critoph, Best Teacher Ever” with a smiley face and a heart.
